Supporting mental health is the goal

Supporting mental health is the goal
Following a tumultuous 18 months physical and mental well-being are high on the agenda for many people right now. The Be A Game Changer programme, culminating from a partnership between Foundation of Light and Newcastle United Foundation, puts rivalries aside to raise awareness of mental well-being and supports local communities. Foundation of Light coaches and tutors have been working with scores of organisations across the north east to promote healthier working environments. As part of the initiative, 10 teams from businesses across Wearside took part in the first-ever Be A game Changer Tournament at the Beacon of Light. The competition brought over 120 players together, giving people the opportunity to network and socialise, while keeping active. Gentoo, Paragon Customer Care and Wear United were just some companies that took part in the event, with the common goal of working together and supporting each other. Steven Gordon, from Gentoo Group really enjoyed the experience: “It was fantastic to see so many local organisations support such an important cause. At the workplace we are very active in looking out for one another and we have a team mental health champions in each of our offices, of which I’m a part of. “Gentoo Group and Foundation have a longstanding relationship and we’re always keen to get on board with any activities, but this one especially is important to us and very prevalent at the moment.” Be A Game Changer sessions can be arranged for any business or grassroots football club, with Foundation of Light tutors providing resources for organisations to use and help support their team’s mental health.
