Foundation hosts veterans careers event

Foundation of Light has teamed up with Forces Resettlement Partnership to host a careers fair to help armed forces veterans into work or further and higher education.

Businesses from across the North East will be attending the event at the Stadium of Light's Black Cats Bar on Thursday 9th March (10am-4pm) giving former service men and women the opportunity to meet and network with potential employers and training providers.

There will also be presentations from companies and organisations who are looking to hire veterans and attendees as well as Forces Resettlement Partnership, who aim to make the transition to civilian life as smooth as possible.

Linda Hughes, World of Work Coordinator at Foundation of Light, said: "We are delighted to be working with Forces Resettlement Partnership to offer veterans the chance to find out more about the wide range of opportunities available to them after leaving the armed forces.

Foundation of Light is passionate about providing support to ex-service men and women who are experiencing difficulties in adjusting to their new life as a civilian through our life-changing programmes and activities.

"We are delighted to host this event which is a natural progression of our work which helps veterans improve their health and wellbeing and their chances of gaining employment.

"The event will provide a fantastic way for veterans to meet with companies and get their foot in the door. There will also be a variety of training providers attending the event who will happily discuss the various routes into further and higher education."

Forces Resettlement Partnership have been working with North East businesses who are keen to employ veterans with many of the companies present at the careers fair to provide advice and guidance about forthcoming vacancies.

The event is free for veterans to attend with local business who wish to showcase their opportunities asked to donate an amount that they feel is appropriate with proceeds going to local charities including Foundation of Light. Attendees can register by visiting www.forcesresettlementpartnership.co.uk while businesses can book a space by contacting info@forcesresettlementpartnership.co.uk.

Forces Resettlement Partnership aims to assist service leavers with the transition into worthwhile and satisfying civilian employment, understanding the challenges that can be faced when trying to make skills and qualities developed in the Armed Forces transferable to the civilian world.
