DUO SECURE AMERICAN SCHOLARSHIPS

Two of our female football scholars are celebrating this week, as they secured places on prestigious football scholarships in America. After studying the Level 3 Cambridge Technical Extended Diploma in Sport and Physical Activity Development as part of the Foundation of Light Post-16 education programme, Abigail Moss has attained a full scholarship at Coffeyville Community College in Kansas, whilst Megan Foster has earned a place with Arizona Western College. The Foundation’s Football Scholarship programme started in 2016, with the programme expanding to incorporate girls football in 2017. The two-year programme aims to give over 100 talented footballers aged 16 to 19, the opportunity to compete at national league level, whilst also gaining nationally recognised qualifications through an extensive education programme. Steve McClarence, Foundation of Light’s Lead Ladies Scholarship Coach said: “I am immensely proud of Abigail and Megan. I know they will excel in America and whilst we are sad to see them leave, it is fantastic to see what they can achieve.

The news that two of our girls have secured American scholarships, just shows that our Post-16 programme is successfully helping young people to progress in both education and football.

"The hard work that the girls have put in has paved the way for future scholars to explore US scholarships and football opportunities abroad.” Last month a number of the scholars travelled to Malta where they took part in mid-season training and faced competition from other Maltese clubs. Megan added: “The support I’ve received from the Foundation of Light in the last two years has been unbelievable.  I can most definitely say I’ll never forget my experiences with the best squad and coaching staff.”
