John Charleton was just 17 when he enrolled on our innovative Back on Track course which has led to an ‘amazing’ job for the County Durham teenager.
“I wasn’t in work or education when the opportunity came up to join Back on Track,” says John. “I’d left college where I was studying carpentry and was looking in other career directions.
“I really enjoyed the sessions and the exercises I was asked to do which I found challenging and completely different to what I’d experienced at school or college.”
Upon completion of the 15-week course, John volunteered his time to support the delivery of the second Back on Track course, as well as assisting with other Foundation programmes.
His positive attitude and willingness to help others made him a prime candidate for an Apprenticeship with us, and he took to the position with great enthusiasm.
I believe studying on the Back on Track programme helped me get where I am today. Foundation of Light staff were very supportive and helped me work towards achieving my goals.
Working for the Foundation is amazing, and if it wasn’t for Back on Track and the course tutors I wouldn’t be where I am now.
