Sunderland AFC has announced the signing of Foundation of Light scholarship graduate, Nathan Greenwood, on a deal until the end of the season.
The midfielder will form part of Elliott Dickman’s under-23s squad after previously representing Seaham Red Star.
Speaking about his move, Greenwood who graduated with a Level 3 Diploma in Sport and Physical Activity earlier this year said: “I’m really excited about the challenge here at Sunderland.
“I’ve been in and around the club for a few weeks now and I’m enjoying every second of it. Ultimately, it comes down to me to grasp the opportunity that’s been given to me and that’s something I’m determined to do.”
Foundation of Light’s Director of Programming, Jamie Wright said “We are delighted for Nathan that he has been signed by Sunderland AFC. Nathan is a real credit to our scholarship programme which has been designed to give talented footballers aged 16-18 years old, the opportunity to progress into professional football and gain nationally recognised qualifications.
“Today is the first day of the new academic year, so I have no doubt Nathan’s news will act as inspiration to our next generation of scholars.”
