SAFC supporters and players get behind Foundation of Light Day
Sunderland AFC’s match against Queens Park Rangers was dedicated to the Foundation of Light and the day was well supported throughout by SAFC players and fans alike.
Scores of cyclists took to their saddles this past weekend to raise over £10,000 for the club’s official charity, Foundation of Light, as part of the Fit for FoL Cycle Challenge.
Sunderland AFC Chief Operating Officer, Steve Davison joined the peloton, taking part in the 85-mile route around the Tyne and Wear coast, starting and finishing at the Foundation’s Beacon of Light home.
Steve and his wife Janet picked up the ‘Best Newcomers’ award during the presentation ceremony after completing their first-ever Cycle Challenge,
Each year dedicated fundraisers join the popular challenge, which has been running for over 10 years – including a virtual route last year - to support communities across Sunderland, South Tyneside and County Durham, with cyclists taking on routes in cities across Europe.
Once again, merchanting and DIY manufacturer, Grafton Group, lent their support the annual fundraiser, which stayed local this year, in line with current COVID-19 restrictions.
