Football powers up Beacon of Light

Beacon of Light is teaming up with small-sided football specialists Powerplay to launch new adult leagues this summer.

Kicking off in June, the partnership will offer teams the chance to be play 5 a side or 7 a side within world-class facilities.

Whether they want to get together with friends on a weekend, or sign up colleagues to join an ‘after work’ league, there will be a time and place for players of all abilities to enjoy competitive, organised football each week.

Taking place on the Beacon’s new outdoor floodlit 3G pitches (on Monday’s and Thursday’s) and state-of-the-art 4G rooftop football barn (Sunday’s), the new leagues will ensure footballers across the region showcase their skills in state of the art surroundings.

Neil Couling, Beacon of Light’s Programming and Marketing Manager, said: “We are delighted to be partnering with one of the biggest league providers in the UK.

Powerplay’s ethos of bringing local people together through organised sport, events and community activities really resonates with what we will do at the Beacon.

Having the opportunity to offer competitive and organised leagues is fantastic for the Beacon of Light.

“We are expecting places to fill up fast, and would urge any interested teams to get in touch as soon as possible.”

Information events are to be scheduled which will welcome teams to the North East’s newest sports, events and education venue and introduce them to the Beacon of Light Sports Team.

James Kewell from Powerplay, added: “This is a fantastic opportunity for us to provide footballers of Sunderland the best small-sided experience at the best facility in the area.

“The Beacon of Light really is an outstanding facility and we are very excited about this partnership.”

All proceeds from activities at the Beacon of Light will support Foundation of Light’s award winning programmes which improve the lives of thousands across the North East every year.
