Beacon helps engineer future for North East youngsters

The North East’s biggest engineering celebration is coming to the Beacon of Light this October.

Bring it On! showcases exciting opportunities to young people aged 10-14 with the objective of educating them about engineering activities which take place throughout the region and inspiring them to become part of it.

The exhibition will feature six exciting zones (subsea, automotive, civil, chemical, digital and careers advice) over two days (Wednesday 3rd and Thursday 4th October) at the world-class Beacon of Light for primary and secondary school pupils with engineering companies demonstrating their activities and products through interactive displays and seminars.

The Beacon of Light is the North East’s most innovative sports, events and education facility and the first of its kind in the UK. Set to open later this year, the Beacon will create life-changing opportunities for people in the North East four interactive zones: Education, Health and Wellbeing, Sport and Play, and World of Work.

 

We have a great line up of talented businesses from all over the region ready to tell pupils and their teachers about the many possibilities engineering can offer to the North East.

With interactive and entertaining exhibits for students to engage with it made sense that this innovative event required an exciting venue and the Beacon of Light proves to be just that.

In addition to the main exhibition, which will again exclusively feature North East Engineering companies, Bring It On! will host the North East Regional Heat of the ‘Big Bang’ national competition which aims, amongst other things, to raise awareness of the range of STEM careers available to young people and the routes into those careers.

The ‘Big Bang Near Me’ is a programme delivered by RTC North, one of Europe’s leading technology transfer companies who work with individuals, businesses and the public sector to help create more innovative and vibrant economies.

The world-class Beacon of Light will be accessible to people of all ages from the region and will house the Foundation’s award-winning work across four vital areas: Education; Health and Wellbeing; Sport and Play; and the World of Work, as well as hosting multiple events.

Jemma Garrett, Foundation of Light’s Events Manager, said: “We’re delighted to announce ‘Bring it on!’ as the first confirmed expo at the Beacon of Light.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming so many youngsters and local engineering firms to the Beacon of Light for an event that, like the Beacon itself, will be engaging, educating and inspiring.”
