Strong, safe communities where everyone is valued
Our partnership with Derwentside Homes was launched in 2012 at Derwentside College following consultations with local residents which agreed that a provision of youth activities were a priority on some Consett and Stanley estates, especially those which could be used as positive diversionary activities for those young people involved in youth disorder.
Premier League Kicks and Mini Kickers sessions were introduced to engage young people aged 8-19 years in sports and recreational activities using the power of the Sunderland AFC brand to educate them on topical issues such as alcohol misuse, health and antisocial behaviour.
Foundation of Light staff also delivered the charity's award-winning Family Learning programme in local schools with Personal Development and Junior Sports Leaders Award courses signposting secondary age pupils to other Foundation activities available to them within their community.
In 2014, through a series of workshops, it was decided to increase programme delivery with Back on Track and Tackle It study programmes being implemented to increase Foundation of Light's engagement of even more young people in North Durham.
