Supporting local communities in which we live and work
Barclays and Foundation of Light have a long-standing, successful relationship realised through shared values and a commitment to improving opportunities for people and a tradition of serving communities in the North East.
Barclays plays a broad role in the communities in which we live and work. We have witnessed this first-hand through the development of Washington Millennium Centre via Barclays' 'Spaces for Sport' initiative. Since its launch, the facility has allowed thousands of young people access to sport and positive activities through after-school, evening and weekend clubs, and an innovative 'Learning Difficulties League' supporting the region's Special Needs Schools.
Barclays staff also contribute through volunteering at events, assisting with bucket collections and fundraising for Foundation of Light. They have also lent their expertise to our 'Barclays Premier League Works' programme, working with young people not in education, employment or training (NEET) on the subject of money management.
