World of Work
Increasing skills and employment opportunities
The Beacon will become a hub for workforce development, including employment programmes, volunteering support, traineeships and apprenticeships, and will provide a base for school and business links. Employment and business growth opportunities will naturally develop for service providers.
Through the Beacon of Light we will be able to deliver World of Work objectives in Careers Advice; Personal and Social Development; Vocational Training; Enterprise; and Workskills.
The World of Work zone will provide a work-based learning environment for those aged 14 years upwards in a range of fields which could include Sport, Education and Training, Business Skills and Catering and Hospitality. It will help bridge the gap between school and work, easing the transition for both employees and youngsters, as well as inspiring those without jobs to address barriers to their own employment.
By taking a holistic approach to the world of work we will connect youngsters and adults with local industry and business, helping them become more valued members of society and supporting the North East Local Enterprise Partnership’s priority sectors of automotive, digital, business services and health.
